Energy Procurement for a Data Center in Utah

Energy Procurement for a Data Center in Utah

Altanova helped clear the way for data center construction by identifying diversified energy supplies that met regulatory and transmission constraints.

Challenge:

A client planned to build a large data center in Utah, but the local utility's limited electricity supply threatened the project's feasibility, requiring alternative procurement solutions.

Our Approach:

The Altanova team began with a regulatory pathway assessment, evaluating options for contracting additional energy from an Independent Power Producer (IPP). Next, we modeled future electricity rates, analyzed renewable power contracts, and projected lifetime energy costs for the project. The team also completed a grid feasibility study, assessing regional transmission and distribution constraints to identify reliable, diversified energy sourcing opportunities.

Benefits & Results:

Altanova's analysis ensured the project stayed on track to be completed on time. We found solutions that will result in operational reliability by securing multiple energy sources while minimizing grid impacts. Competitive energy rates were secured through PPA contracts, providing long-term cost stability and budget predictability.
